We are delighted to announce that the new Cuban Ambassador, Ismara Vargas, will be attending a fundraising social event on Friday 22nd Nov. 7pm in Handsworth at St Andrews, B20 2HX
We are raising funds for the national health materials appeal ‘Cuba Vive‘ . DO put the date in your diary, and we really hope to see as many of you as possible at the event, to give the Ambassador a warm welcome to Birmingham and the West Midlands! The event should be a fun and relaxing event, albeit with the serious aim of raising funds. There’ll be:
Cuban foods (v) and cocktails & drinks to warm you up!
Salsa class and free dance with the irrepressible Valia Rodriguez
Speed dominoes tournament – one of Cuba’s favourite games
Punch the US Presidents on the CSC punchbag! Win a prize if you can knock out Bush, Clinton, Reagan etc with a left hook!
Cuba quiz and raffle (bottle of Cuban ‘Havana Club’ rum + other prizes)
A couple of short videos on the current situation in Cuba.
A short contribution from the Ambassador, as well as our other special guest, Health trade unionist from Nicaragua, Flavia Ocampo, who will be on a tour to the UK organised by Unison trade union.
All in all it should be a really entertaining as well as informative evening. We are really delighted the Ambassador and the health trade unionist are coming, so DO save the date, and get to the social if you can – it is at St Andrews Community Centre, Church Lane, Handsworth, B20 2HX, Bus 11 or 101 from city centre, 7pm start til 10pm. £5 (or £10 if you can) on the door, – cash or card.
The leaflet for the event is attached. Do get back if you can distribute leaflets, or put them up on a noticeboard at work or in your community. Invite your friends too if you are coming!
